Who We Are
Student-Athlete Showcase (SAS) is a leading marketing company transforming the way college recruiters and prospective students communicate with each other.
Our mission is to deliver the most successful outcomes for college-bound student-athletes. Our vision is to be the world’s most trusted way to get student-athletes recruited by college coaches.
Founded by Rex Grayner and Zack Walz in 2003, SAS offers a full-service marketing solution for college-bound athletes, personal guidance for parents, and now a menu of ancillary college planning tools for both athletes and non-athletes. The SAS program is available to students as early as the 8th grade, giving families a trusted college planning partner through the entire high school experience.
With thousands of athletes playing in college and hundreds of new success stories annually, the SAS College Game Plan has become the preferred marketing strategy for college-bound athletes and college recruiters across North America.
Making meaningful differences in the lives of student-athletes is what we strive to do each and every day.
Setting goals and accepting responsibility for all outcomes.
A promise to deliver a rewarding experience for each client.
We demand integrity first and foremost. At SAS, we do what we say we’ll do.
Rex was a 3-sport athlete at Linfield HS in Temecula, CA and played college baseball for both Loyola Marymount University and University of California, San Diego, where he graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor’s degree in English. Rex then attended Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI where he earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management.
In 1995, Rex began coaching a competitive travel baseball team. When a majority of his players struggled to draw the attention of college coaches, Rex launched aggressive marketing plans for each prospect. He worked diligently for those who dreamed of maximizing their college opportunities through athletics. As Rex saw his players enjoy enormous success, he knew he had found his true passion.
Since 2003, Rex has educated tens of thousands of parents, athletes, coaches, guidance counselors, college planners and school administrators on the college athletic recruitment process. He is a 2008 recipient of the Denver Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” award. He is an active member of the National College Advocacy Group (NCAG) and is recognized among the country’s leading authorities in college athletic recruiting.
Rex resides in Parker, Colorado with his wife Kristin and their two children, Reed and Olivia.
Zack was a standout linebacker at St. Francis HS in Los Altos, CA. When college coaches all but overlooked him, Zack’s dad launched an aggressive recruiting campaign. In the end, Dartmouth College came calling.
As a 4-year starter for The Big Green, Zack earned All-Ivy League honors three times and was named All-America as a senior. The Arizona Cardinals drafted Zack in the 6th round, and he enjoyed a 5-year NFL career before retiring in 2002.
Zack’s story of “overlooked HS prospect to NFL linebacker” gained national attention, and it compelled him to start a company to help prospective athletes avoid common recruiting pitfalls. It was here that he connected with Rex, and the rest, as they say, is history.
One of Zack’s closest friends was Pat Tillman, the former Arizona Cardinal who was tragically killed in combat in Afghanistan.
Zack resides in Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife, Eva, and their son, Channing.
